2016, a slightly perplexed review of neuroscience

I’m loving this blog. Thank you.

  • The ability to use light emissions from spiking neurons to record cellular behavior allows one to record multiple neighboring neurons at once. This allows neuroscientists to interpret the relationship between neural firing patterns and neighboring firing. This is important because much of the information encoded within a neural spike is dependent upon the relationship of the spike to its neighbors.
  • There a need for deep theory to explain systems of neurons and the role of rhythm in neural computation
  • Svoboda wrote a really nice summary of the progress in the field for the Dana forum: Imaging the Neural Symphony
