- The ability to use light emissions from spiking neurons to record cellular behavior allows one to record multiple neighboring neurons at once. This allows neuroscientists to interpret the relationship between neural firing patterns and neighboring firing. This is important because much of the information encoded within a neural spike is dependent upon the relationship of the spike to its neighbors.
