I’m sorry, whatever happened to being in sync with and reading someone, their body, their energy?

I am absolutely supportive of the article you have written. However, reading the subtleties of a persons energy and response is not clear affirmative consent. That is usually silent and very much implied consent. This is easily disputable by either party in the court. A huge issue for why victims feel shamed or blamed when having to account for their actions.

You also made a similar statement in your opening paragraphs, that you know it is clear when someone really wants you. Which brings about the alcohol and drug conversation no one wants to have.

Implied consent is too easily achieved using drugs and alcohol. We as a society don’t do enough to educate why alcohol is a danger to men and women in social interaction. A large number of date, house party and club assaults occur due to alcohol and substance use. We do need to have this conversation and not ignore the risks it brings about. Too often in Rape Culture blogs, the alcohol conversation gets swept quietly under the rug because accountability comes into conversation.
