This is a terribly sad story. The driver obviously made a terrible error. I was able to follow up on the driver being apprehended two blocks from where the accident occurred. From all descriptions initial impressions ‘he was not sober’ has been put to rest by police as drugs and alcohol likely not the cause of accident. What has been described is a driver who was in shock. Shock is a terrible affliction following an accident. It causes fight or flight response. His dizzy, disoriented behaviour seems indicative of that. I work in a hospital ER. Shock is a terrible thing and usually produces unpredictable results. He has to answer for his actions, likely he didn’t have criminal intent in killing someone. I don’t think his flight from the scene was entirely for evasive reasons.
