I was just reading your post about designing a new civilization, brilliant.

This also made me realize that the system I describe / imagine might be seen more as a system where every part gets exactly what they need, instead of an incentive system. It’s a bit hard to define though where incentive/reward morphs into ‘getting what I require to keep functioning’.

Would you draw a strict line between those two? Are they actually different, or does ‘getting what I require’ still qualify as an incentive system (if I know in advance how much I will get)?

I’d also be interested in more information about why

Any form of incentive results in competitive behaviour

and whether that’s always necessarily bad. Do you know of some good resources for more on that? From memory Schmachtenberger only scratched the surface of that a bit…
