Introducing: The Derp
To find out what derp.life is about, we will need to revisit the deep origins of The Derp. A quick Google search reveals its definition: “used as a substitute for speech regarded as meaningless or stupid, or to comment on a foolish or stupid action.” Of course, who can forget the Derp face? One of the most recognizable artworks on the Internet, forever immortalized thanks to Trey Parker and Matt Stone, the creators of the popular show South Park.
During the good old days of simple comical content and funny cat videos, the Internet birthed a new character that would be injected into almost every situation on every message board like never before via 4chan and reddit back in 2008. Angry-faced memes, forever alone, “FFFFFFFUUUUUUUUUUUU” guy to the evil, blue-faced “I LIED!” became the go-to choice of 4–6 strip comical memes across all social platforms…
From there, came the birth of rage comics — the founding fathers of modern memes. These memes spawned from every corner and crevice of the Internet, spreading across every forum and image board like wildfire. These memes were created with one thing in mind — obscurity and virality, which later on evolved over time to the meme culture we have today.
Derp meets Web3
Did we create an atrocity or a wonder? The beholder determines the verdict.
Given the sheer size and depth of the Internet, we could have introduced any other comic or cartoon for our project. However, we believe that the Derp has a special place in meme culture as one of the pioneers of modern memes, which led to the spur of a wave of visual comedy on current events, politics, and just everyday things that people from different walks of life can relate to as well as laugh at.
In recent years, people have discovered a new summit to climb on the ever growing mountain that is the Internet. With this discovery, the collective mind grasps at the sky; curious hands reaching out for greater heights. A path to a new peak paved by Web3 and blockchain technology, or more specifically, the Ethereum blockchain.
With the rise of Web3 and non-fungible tokens (NFT), this brings a new opportunity for the Derp to restore its former glory on the meme throne. With a fresh revamped look, we’re ready to bring back the Derp into modern relevancy.

As the Derpverse and the Internet collides, people needed an easy way to express themselves through short comics aka memes. From the wide variety of meme faces available on the Internet, the Derp was by far the most relatable as it became the default go-to form of expression (especially with how clueless we are in life).
With the constant need for meme content in the NFT space, we wanted give back and let the internet own their ownership of a slightly better-looking Derp.
So what makes us special?
Derp.life will be one of the first dual chain NFT projects, listed on both Ethereum and Solana. And that’s not even the best part — the first 5,000 mints will be free!
You want to own a Derp? Then go get one!
No whitelist, no grinding, no complicated roadmap. Just mint your Derp and hop in for the ride. Hints on the launch will be posted very soon, so do keep an eye out for details. (Just one eye, you probably need the other eye for everything else.)
Additionally, all derp.life NFTs will come in the form of the CC0 (Creative Commons Zero) framework, which allows everyone in the Derpverse to use their Derps freely for any purpose while we create our army of Derps for the community and cult-followers.
The Derp Vault
So what is the Derp Vault? In short, the Derp Vault is the cornerstone of the project, where a portion of the proceeds from the launch will be dedicated towards a community fund. From there, we will have regular meme competitions, known as Meme Hunts, where anyone who owns a derp.life NFT can take part in these Meme Hunts. But that’s not all, each winner of the Meme Hunt will receive a prize in the form of $DERPS tokens transferred directly to them.
That’s right, you’ll get paid for the best memes you can create.
The winning meme then gets transferred into the Derp Vault as a separate collection of unique 1-of-1 NFTs. The memes will then be auctioned off, with all the proceeds going back to the Derp Vault to fund project developments as well as future Meme Hunts.
Overall, the project will be centered around our community, with derp.life holders paving the way for future of meme culture in the NFT space. All derp.life holders will be able to decide on the project’s direction as well as how the project’s funds will be allocated through community voting.

Welcome to The Derpverse
We’ll update the manifesto and the roadmap here. As part of working towards DerpDAO, we’re open to suggestions about what we should include in the product roadmap for Derp so do reach out to our admins via Discord!
Now, let’s make him dance atop the digital theater once again, living through brand new stories. Through memes, pop culture, art, and nonsense, our army of Derps shall once again populate Web3 and the INTERNET!… into more nonsense.

All derp.life NFT holders will be eligible to join the meme competition as part of the DerpDAO. Derp.life holders will also be able to vote on each meme entry in the Meme Hunts, where the winner will be given ETH from the DerpDAO!
