Building A Strong Artist Name / DJ Brand
Written _ Derrick Files

The Number 1 success factor to get more and better gigs is Your DJ / Artist Brand.
It distinguishes you from the millions of bedroom DJs and struggling artists out there. The easiest way to build your DJ Brand is via Content. Creating content is all about starting out (often with no fanbase and no contacts to clubs), and having fun while getting more reach and bookings.
That’s how one of our first Spreadcaster users started his career. He only had six listeners with that first DJ Live Podcast but it was the start — and he has gone on to build an audience of tens of thousands of listeners on many platforms by following the exact 7 steps:
1. Pick your niche: for example Ragga, Reggae Dancehall or RNB. This will enable your clientele to understand what you can produce best and what to expect every time you’re to release a piece.
2. Create an Image: To be successful in building your DJ brand it is crucial that people can identify with you as a person — not only your music. People follow people. In other words, associate with your fans on a regular.
3. Pay attention to your visual appearance: It is very important for bookers since they are booking you not only based on your sound but also on the emotions that you create for their club guests, events and even Private Shows
4. Create content: Mixtapes, Radioshows, (Live) Podcasts, Livestreams, Wallpaper, VLOGs, EPs, Mixcloud, etc.
5. Be consistent: When you look at Top DJs like Avicci, Martin Garrix, etc, you can see that they all created hundreds of podcasts and radio episodes. It is much better to create one show per week consistently instead of infrequently 5 mixtapes in one week.
6. Channels: Distribute your content on social media platforms like Twitch, Facebook, YouTube, etc. Because you’re producing and writing your original content, Feel free to share it on various platforms to give yourself an audience. Make Promoted posts where necessary.
7. Monetization: At the beginning, gigs are your №1 income stream. As soon as you have a fanbase you can also start monetizing via merch, tracks,iTunes, Spotify, and branded content deals.
8. Join a Team. For Cases in Uganda, many DJs have teamed up to form solid movements to help them grow with the brand. This applies to artists too. Groups Like Route Entertainment, ATR Records and many others.
