Hi Mr. Dixon, I can understand why you and many people support Bernie. I personally think the guy was great but he didn’t understand economics. The US is in debt over $19,000,000,000,000 and Bernie would only make it worse. Let me address some issues you have with Gary Johnson and Libertarians
Bernie is for free education which is great, but it doesn’t solve the issue of what made education expensive in the first place. It actually makes it worse.
Libertarians actually targets the root of the problem. It is supply and demand https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8GTa_swC-OE The cost of colleges have gone up due to government subsidies and all the money they waste on needless facilities, bureaucrats, and Hillary’s Speaking fees http://www.foxnews.com/politics/2015/08/13/as-clinton-touts-college-debt-bailout-plan-critics-point-to-2m-in-school.html
On Civil Liberties. Libertarians support the decision for someone to live however they want to as long as it does not take away the rights of others. We are against the war on drugs, for gay rights, and for religious freedom; everyone has the same rights. The government must treat everyone equally, but when it comes to individuals, they don’t require it. Let me give you an example of how a libertarian thinks about this.
Suppose you have a bakery that doesn’t want to bake a cake for a gay couple because they don’t want to feel like they are part of a wedding that is against their religious beliefs. Sound familiar? Well you could look at it as a civil rights issue that the gay couple is being treated differently based on their sexuality and you could also look at it as a private business owner not having the freedom to be able to refuse service when he wants to. Regardless of what side of the argument you are on you can agree that the gay couple can take their business to a different bakery and others who disagree with the anti-gay bakery will also do business elsewhere. It opens market elsewhere for someone is welcomes gay marriage.
We mostly talk about these issues when it is based on sexuality, race, gender, ect. But did you know, as a business owner you can’t refuse to serve alcohol to a pregnant woman? It’s because you are discriminating based on gender and medical condition and the woman can sue if she has alcohol related problems with her child. https://www.restaurants.com/blog/can-a-restaurant-refuse-to-serve-alcohol-to-a-pregnant-woman/#.V5qDsbgrJEZ
So you have to serve alcohol to a pregnant woman knowing that it could possibly kill a child. Yay for civil rights! Libertarians believe as a private business owner you can refuse, and if people don’t like it, they can profit off of the people the business loses from it. We don’t have the government babysit us.
Now onto “supports the privatization of Social Security, believes that Medicare and Medicaid funds should be distributed as block grants to individual states”
Right now, there is a good chance that you wont be able to count on Social Security to take care of you after you retire. The truth is we can’t afford it. The age needs to be increased and I rather not pay for something I can’t have in the future and invest it in my own retirement. I already mentioned how much debt we are in, and most of our money is spent on these programs. http://www.kiwiblog.co.nz/wp-content/uploads/2014/10/federal-spending-2014.jpg
The Libertarian way of solving this is not going to make people who feel entitled to these services happy, but it is the only logical thing to do https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=asRDOhgN70Q
You are correct in saying that Sander and Johnson are different. BUT, it is more on how they approach the way to solve issues. People want to stop having their money wasted. Sanders believes in more government policy and intervention, whereas Johnson believes in more self responsibility and freedoms. Socially (Which is where a lot of people are concerned) they are quite similar.
