Week 1: Freedom in Meditation

Part 1/2: Om Chanting: This meditation evolved from the instruction of Swami Dhyan Samarth. This is a beautiful meditation that begins itself in the familiar: Child’s Pose. A place of comfort and familiarity to all those who enter the room. After being settled, we transition to bowing namaste at the very beginning of class to set our intention and start a new cycle of understanding. From here we move to Om chanting, where we introduce good sitting posture and etiquette. Use this opportunity then to drift students into a deep state of relaxation. Guide students to scan bodies from head to toe while listening to the beautiful sound of Dream 1 -> 6. Make sure that the beat of the drum vibrates against their chest, while at the same time remaining soft to the ears to awaken them. Transition the awakening from the drums into an awakening of the sound and vibrations of Om. Begin Chanting Om for as long as you desire…

  1. Shavasana -> Child’s Pose
    Song: Still Now
    Purpose: Bring unfamiliar yoga students into a familiar posture.
    Set the intention: Enjoy
  2. Child’s Pose -> Bow Namaste
    Song: Reverie
    Purpose: Begin a new cycle of understanding that bowing namaste at the beginning will be our new tradition.
    Set the intention: Love
  3. Bow Namaste -> Om chanting
    Song: Dream 1
    Purpose: Place students into proper sitting posture. Focusing on relaxation, body awareness, and breath. Once they are relaxed, begin to instruct Om Chanting Mediation.
    Set the intention: Awaken
  4. Om Chanting
    Song: Silence (Turn off Music)
    Purpose: They are ready to begin the meditation.
    Set the intention: Feeling the vibrations of Om.
