Good article. I think you are spot on. One of the terms I find injurious to Senior ICs pride is “Management = Leadership”. Management and Leadership are not the same thing. Oftentimes, Management is not even Leading, they are following. So, I think moving away from the idea that leadership is always and can only be management would go a long way to ensuring pure IC designers — who lead — can feel respected, and not feel obliged to join management, simply to earn the “Leader” epithet they already have.
