The Civil Rights Act was pushed by JFK who was a Democrat and signed by LBJ another Democrat in 1964. Johnson was willing to lose the support of the southern states to get the bill passed and that’s what happened by the late 1960s. Southern Democrats changed party affiliations and became Republicans. You also seemingly don’t know the politics were a lot different back then and split across regions. The Republican party had their segregationist, fiscal conservatives, moderates and social liberals. The Democratic party had their own segregationists, social and fiscal liberals, moderates and anti-war politicians. Maybe you should pick up a book.
