Cheap Hotels’ live music video featuring the songs ‘The Guys’ and ‘I Need Some Sleep’ showcases an exuberant indie post-punk sound in the burgeoning Phoenix scene!
The style and flash of the Cheap Hotels revives a craving and thirst for great post-punk indie in quite an infectious manner.
It’s incredible to imagine that only a couple of years ago they released their first EP, and this follow up record released this year, ‘Late Last Night’, I believe has earned them a feature here on Desert Noise!
The NPR supported KJZZ 91.5FM has featured the group on it’s Tiny Desert Concert in studio performances. And I have to say after listening to them album and the live performance here, that it’s evident we have a delicious new presence growing in the Phoenix scene.
The command of one of the lead singers and guitar players Isaac Kolding is both playful and poetic like a modern Buddy Holly with a driving rhythmic melancholy.
I also dig the lead guitar squealing done here by Ian Wilson which strongly reminds me of the catchy and articulate solos laid out by Nick Valensi of The Strokes.
It’s also great that this group has two lead singers sharing the mic while Jordan Raub and Zeynep Ayla are anchoring the driving rhythm of this musical party.
The second song in the live music video performance, ‘I Need Some Sleep’ features Ian Wilson on vocals in guitar, charging in with a Julian Casablancas fervor and swag.
It’s really a quite a task to perform this music style with such a tight pomp, but Cheap Hotels nails it in this live performance. I was immediately attracted to this sound, and I can’t wait to review the full record ‘Late Last Night’ in the days ahead.
