How does that negate in any way the author’s satirical take on the current state of affairs in front end development? I would dare say the author (and most people reading this) have positive views of javascript (well…) and front-end development. That’s not the point. Satire is not simply about lambasting something you dislike. Only straight up bad satire is that clumsy in execution.
On a serious note, I think what is alarming here is not any supposed ‘BS’ by the author, though he or she would probably also label the text in question as ‘BS’, since that was sort of the point of the piece. I do believe, with much respect to the author, that this is some of the most in-depth BS I’ve read in quite some time. But what I find alarming is the large difference between my (and I believe the standard) understanding of the tone and intent of satire itself compared to the views I’ve read here. Do they no longer teach these things in schools? My question is not rhetorical, though I fear that distinction may also be lost in these online discussions. I’m saying this question is not a rhetorical or oratory device used to throw shade on those who have a different view from mine. It’s an honest question that I’m curious about, not a veiled insult. When I want to insult someone, I usually just do it.
Sincerely,
Feeling old and wanting these kids and their satire-less existence off my lawn
