5 skills for UX Researchers to have in 2019

1. Understanding Psychology
The basis of all user experience is psychology. They should have an understanding about how people think, behave and process information. This is often overlooked while newbies learn UX. If you don’t understand psychology, you don’t understand UX 🤷
So, what can you do to start learning about people and psychology, is go grab this book

2. Listening for Understanding
We listen to form a bond. Be it with our users, family members, stakeholders or our partner. We need to give enough space so the other person can speak it’s heart out.
Some people listen to start taking 🧨 . Make it all about them. Bring questions in conversation to understand more.

3. Synthesis
After you conduct your research analyze your qualitative and quantitative data points, bring it all together and make recommendations to your clients or stakeholders. It is a somewhat hard thing to do.
You basically connect the dots, triangulate different sources of data to form a bigger picture.

4. Storytelling
You need to give a lot of presentations to be good at storytelling. People remember stories.
For example, just don’t say 5 users had problem doing something. Also support it with a story about what happened and their emotions. To make your case stronger add videos.
This book will help you make better storyteller.

5. Influence
Have you ever presented research and nothing happened to it? If you can’t convince people to take action, then research never existed. To build trust and authority, there are many persuasion techniques you can learn.
Please go read this book by Dale Carnegie.
