When they try to exert the least effort for the greatest clarity in deeply understanding people, it doesn’t actually fit into the process. There’s not enough time for it. Teams value the knowledge but are constrained to make do with shortcuts, which sometimes lead to sloppy pseudo-science.

Goodness but this is a brilliant insight. The drive towards haste is ever-present and it’s a great idea to erect temporary shelters where we can go deep.

I’ve certainly experienced pushback from busy team members who are looking to tick the “I understand the customer” box with three-minutes of bullet-pointed highlights.

But I’ve also watched team members’ eyes light up with genuine understanding after they simply took the time to sit and empathise with people.

Also “more haste less speed” itches in my brain too.
