Learning to Trust

It has been over a week now that I have lived at the orphanage. I am falling more in love everyday with the children. Watching them grow and learn so much in such a short time is incredible.

Devon and I are the ones in charge here at Project Nyame Nsa. At times it has been overwhelming with all the responsibilities we have here but we have a great local Ghanaian team. Although Devon may seem young being the President of a big organization, God has equipped her with incredible wisdom and knowledge. She has had no previous experience with orphan care or nonprofits but she is doing amazing. Because when God calls you to something and plants a dream in you, He will provide you with all that you need, you just have to trust and go.

Everyday we have been teaching the kids to read and write. Some of the kids are 14 years old and don’t even know the alphabet. You can tell that some have never even been educated or if they have been to school they never got help from the teachers or parents. The kids are so excited to learn! Everyday they ask to read or to do addition and subtraction flash cards. It makes me so happy to see how excited they get and it makes teaching very enjoyable.

I never thought I would be teaching kids how to read or to speak English! I was always that student that struggled in school and now I am able to help kids who are also struggling academically. I have been making daily/weekly schedules and doing lesson plans. Once again God has been putting me out of my comfort so that His glory can shine. If you had told me a year ago what I would be doing here I would have said, “No way! I am not capable of doing that” but God is! He can do anything through us, we just have to trust.

Trust is something I have been learning a lot here. God’s plans are huge and way better than we can ever imagine, we just have to let go and trust Him. Why do we get so upset when things don’t go planned our way? Do you really think your Heavenly Father does not have great plans for you that are far better than your own? It may not be an easy plan or a comfortable life, but it sure is worth it!

This is exactly what Project Nyame Nsa is. It is not Devon’s project or plan, it is God’s. All that this orphanage is is because of God and because orphans are near to His heart and He loves every one of them. God uses people here on earth to do His will. All we have to do is listen to God’s calling and say yes. Have faith and trust and see God’s mighty hands do wonders.

I want nothing more in this life than to walk closely with the Lord and for Him to use me to make His Name great. I know He has big plans for me and I can’t wait to say, “None of it was done by me, but by my amazing God!” May all the glory be to God forever and ever.
