Physicists must accept that some things are unknowable

Certitude is a strange thing. An ex used to loudly proclaim “I’ll tell you exactly what happened in that hotel room with Kobe Bryant,” when really, he wasn’t actually there and didn’t know anything. I had some thoughts of my own, but without knowing, I kept my mouth shut. “That bitch just cut into my lane; she thinks she’s in a bigger hurry than me!” Maybe her mother just had aheart attack and she’s racing, frightened, to the hospital. We just don’t know. On the whole letting-yourself-admit-you-don’t-know thing, people should check out David Foster Wallace’s “This is Water,” a short piece he wrote for Kenyon’s commencement a few years back. Pretty dope!
