Aaron Wan Bissaka, a 25 year old right-back, has been an extremely underrated defender in the Premier League. Let’s dive deeper into his career to see why he should be more valued.

Aaron Wan-Bissaka was born in Greater London, England. With his interest in football, he joined the Crystal Palace academy at the age of 11, where he played as a winger. He signed a professional contract with them at the age of 19 in December 2016 starting in the wing-back position, eventually moving to right-back for his defensive abilities. When Roy Hodgson was appointed as their new manager, Wan-Bissaka was replaced and became an unused substitute.

After making his first-team debut on February 2018, he played in brilliant form and went on to win four Player of the Month awards as well as the Eagles’ Player of the Year the following season.

In June 2019, Wan-Bissaka signed a five-year contract with Manchester United for 50 million euros, making his league debut for his new team against Chelsea in a 4–0 home win.

Since then he has been one of the best defensive-minded full-backs in the world, having a tackle success rate of 96.1%, known for his accurate slide tackles and his 1v1 situations. Having one of the highest tackle success rates, left wingers including Kaoru Mitoma, Jack Grealish and Gabriel Martinelli have all failed to dribble past him this season.

Even with these awards and statistics, he has been critisized and underestimated by many fans around the world and deserves more respect.
