Nimesulide for pain relief

Nimesulide is a prescription anti-inflammatory drug with significant analgesic properties and antipyretic properties. Nimesulide has superior gastrointestinal safety as compared to other NSAIDs

It is used for the treatment of acute pain, the symptomatic treatment of osteoarthritis and primary dysmenorrhoea

It has multifactorial mode of action and is characterized by a fast onset of analgesic action.

Nimesulide should be used as second line treatment. The decision to prescribe nimesulide should be based on assessment of the individual patient’s overall risks.

The approved dosage of Nimesulide should be 100mg twice daily and the duration of the treatment should not exceed 15days to minimize the risk of hepatotoxicity.

It is available in a variety of forms: tablets, powder for dissolution in water, suppositories, mouth dissolving tablets and topical gel.
