It’s all about me.

Where do I start…well my name is Devinne Briana Love. I always wondered why I was named Devinne and I heard there was no story to it at all so I make it up. My moms name is Ivonne and my dads name is Detraiter so I like to say that they combined their names to come up with Devinne. I prefer to be called by my full name Devinne although some people get lazy and shorten it to D and even though I answer to it, I would rather just be called Devinne. I would like to say I am usually a morning person but I guess it depends how late I say up the night before. I would rather go to sleep early and wake up early than stay up late and sleep in because you lose most of the day. There are a few things I really enjoy to do when I am bored but I really go and play basketball if I am bored. That is also my way of relaxing. I turn to this sport I have loved for 15 years to stay in shape and block away anything that has bothered me for the day. It has been my release for so many situations that I am saddened by the fact I won’t be playing as much post graduation.

I am from Chicago, IL and have moved to a few suburbs in the last 10 years but I have only lived in IL. I am a huge family person; they absolutely mean the world to me. I have two younger brothers that are my everything. They are my background on both my computer and phone. We are very close and like to tell each other pretty much everything that is going on in our very different and busy lives. Both of them are very good athletes, one even plays football at the University of Notre Dame. Our lives surround sports but we always make time for each other and time to catch up. I have a very interesting family background. My grandmother on my maternal side is from Cuba, a culture I have fully embraced in my life. My grandfather on my maternal side is from Mexico. My dad’s side of the family is from Memphis, TN and that is one place in the U.S. that I have visited most often. The one language that I know is Spanish and specifically because my grandmother doesn’t speak English. A lot of what makes me proud of my culture is how faith plays apart in it. I identify as Catholic and that is how I was raised. My dad though is Baptist so I have been to many Baptist church services as well. I also have been to a Roman Orthodox service and have been to several Buddhist temples, which is something I am very proud of.

I have been very fortunate to visit a few countries in the world: I have been to Spain, Cuba and Mexico. They all entailed very interesting experiences especially the one in Cuba because its main focus was around the Jesuit mission. The dream is to also visit Japan, London and Thailand in the next few years. I a have special interest in each country and I feel if I don’t get those done in the next few years I wont ever get the chance again. This too explains the reason why I love Thai food and Latin food. If I could live off of rice and beans everyday, I would and would be very happy doing so. There isn’t much food that I dislike either, I would consider myself a “foodie” because I like to try new things. Other facts about me include that I am a true dog person. I actually fear cats and everything about them. I have yet to find a cat that I haven’t cried watchingI enjoy Netflix, probably too much, and my favorite show of all time is Gilmore Girls! Most people don’t know that I have a mental disability and I have panic attacks pretty often. I feel like in the last year I have gotten a pretty good grasp on it but it is apart of who I am. Most people don’t know how busy I am and what my day consist of on a daily basis. I say that because it is a lot. I work in admissions, in the office of residence life, in campus ministry, and in recreational sports. I usually leave at 8 am and come back at 10 pm and most people don’t know how much I put in everyday. Most people also don’t know that I really enjoy shoes. It is actually a bad habit and I know that I shouldn’t spend the amount of money that I do on shoes that I try not to show people my closets so I am not judged. I know there is a lot more to know about me than this paragraph, but follow me on Instagram for more! (@_dloveeeee)
