I explicitly allowed the .gitignore file with first ignore all files (*) and than put an exclamation mark before .gitignore — that way, the .gitignore file is watched and pushed to the repository.

If you don’t want the .gitignore file to be watched, you can just delete this line (!.gitignore) in the .gitignore file.
