It’s inheritance that is immoral, not inheritance tax

This has been one of my personal soapboxes for years. Wealth attracts wealth, and the more you have, the easier it becomes to accumulate even more. It’s a feedback loop.

A functioning society is all about proper incentives. People with good ideas should be able to work their way into wealth; I don’t think anyone disputes that. There’s also value in letting people leave some of their wealth to their descendants. But it should cap out at a few million at most: enough to live a modest and comfortable life, but not enough to build a dynasty around. The rest should go towards raising living standards for everyone and incentivizing the next generation of good ideas.
