1 Day: Bootcamp find, apply, accepted
I know people that get. stuff. done. When my sister was deployed, we found an apartment, moved from Ewa Beach to Honolulu, set up, had a house-warming / going away party, and she got on a plane and left … in 48 hours. Then I started my new teaching job in Waikiki. Yes, it was hard. Yes, we lost a tub of bedding on the way there. Yes, we broke some rules. And yes, we had help. But that happened.
I have been going through Codecademy and Treehouse for 4 weeks. HTML, CSS, and Javascript Full Stack. Complete focus. Lots of googling. My sister told me that Hack Reactor (hiss) was the bootcamp to start with. I had to prepare for weeks just to begin the prep course. I like to plan and be prepared. I have been studying and practicing methodically. Yesterday morning, my sister-in-law said, “You’re going to hate me, but I want you to apply to a programming bootcamp. It starts on Monday.” A friend went through it, The Iron Yard, he is a former PE coach! Now he has a programming job. TIY really expedited the entire application process, so that I could begin on Monday. By 3:30pm, I had 2 interviews finished, all the paperwork filled out, money in, and was getting ready to visit demo day. After working for public school systems for 10 years, I was not used to help, kindness, expediency, organization, fancy online forms, or free tacos. I was on. my. way!
I met so many nice people that were ready to answer questions, share their projects, and help me prepare for my 12 week intensive. I am so grateful to the campus director, the instructor, my brother, my sister-in-law, and my adorable nephew for all their help. Without them, it would be impossible for me to start my grand new adventure on Monday.
Let’s do this.
