It’s also quite common to hire experienced upper level folks (like team leads, CTOs) for senior dev positions, promising promotion. In reality it (surprise, surprise) does not happen. You could easily expect that company either closes before need of such person arises, either they will hire someone who already worked as teamlead, CTO or manager in Germany.

Your previous experience outside of the country does not count. Had years of experience as a team leader, but was convinced to work as a developer in the beginning? Congratulations, effective now you will only be considered as a regular developer.

Conclusion: if you plan to continue working in an upper level positions, look for a proper job since a start.
