One Month of Learning SEO and SaaS Tools

In today’s day and age, marketers must understand the components behind Search Engine Optimization (SEO) and effectively implement them into their content.

Additionally, tech tools are used in almost every startup. There are thousands of them out there, and I’ll certainly need to use some during my career.

Because of this, I’ve created a month-long project which will help me learn SEO techniques and a few different tech tools.

Project Outline

This project can be broken down into 3 major parts:

  1. Research different SEO techniques and the components of Google’s search algorithm.
  2. Learn 3 different tech tools (Zapier, Airtable, Close.io) and write a product-feature blog post about them.
  3. Implement my newly-learned SEO knowledge into these blog posts.

There are two distinct benefits I’ll gain from this product:

First, and most obvious — I’ll be learning SEO and content marketing skills which will be useful during my career.

Second, I’ll add new tools to my tech stack, and create documentation of my learning process and ability.

I’m going to learn a number of hard skills during this month, including:

  • Task automation
  • Spreadsheet creation and management
  • Search engine optimization
  • Product write-ups
  • CRM use

I’ll also be documenting some soft skills along the way:

  • Strong written communication
  • Fast learning
  • Knowledge of documentation processes
  • Ability to stay organized

Weekly Schedule

First and foremost, I’ll need to learn all about SEO algorithms. I’m going to do this by reading through tons of different blogs and taking notes on all of them. Once I have a solid understanding of SEO, I’ll be able to start my product write-ups.

During each week, I’m going to teach myself one software tool and write a blog post about its features. I’ll also be implementing the SEO techniques that I learn into all of these posts.

Currently, it is week 1 of this project. This is my plan for the rest of the month:

Week 1 — Learn and document SEO techniques and algorithms.

Week 2 — Zapier

  • Learn to automate tasks between different SaaS products
  • Create a few different “zaps” that can increase workplace efficiency

Week 3- Airtable

  • Learn to create and edit a spreadsheet on Airtable
  • Discover a few practical applications for this software

Week 4- Close.io CRM

  • Understand how to set up email cadences with Close.io
  • Develop an effective system of managing and reaching out to leads

By the end of March, I’ll have published 3 different product-write ups. Additionally, at the end of the month, I’m going to write one post summarizing important aspects of SEO.

This project is going to be a great learning experience and I’m excited to get it underway. By the end of March, I’ll have a greater understanding of some marketing practices, and solid documentation of related skills.
