Why too much choice is not a good thing

I grew up on a small island (total population was about 1,000,000). It took 2 hours of driving to tour the whole island. Now I live in a country where two hours of driving just gets me across town.

Life was pretty simple and choices were few. Each holiday came with its own traditions. Christmas was when the apples, pears and certain local dishes appeared.
