Rubidium began her journey into production and DJing in the late 2000s when she was living in Seattle. A raver since 1998, she remembers falling in love with the scene as a space to celebrate her earliest artistic output as a dancer. As she grew closer to a crew of producers and DJs, she remembers one day deciding that she no longer wanted “to be a spectator, but wanted to create.”

As a DJ, we were drawn to the continuity and flow of her work. “To me it’s like a heartbeat, it’s constant” she explained as she reminisced over falling in love with parties and DJs that could make “12 hours go by and you wouldn’t even notice.” When describing her process of selecting records or composing, she explained that “you’re telling a story, and everything has it’s place.” For Rubidium, the story right now is a reflection of the “volatile and frenetic” political and technological environment. “It’s very noisy and buzzing,” and her music selection “accents the tension” of the moment. “It makes me feel more powerful… it gives you some control and makes you feel at ease.”

Rubidium’s artistic taste extends beyond creating high intensity moments on the dancefloor. She revealed to us her love of experimental and ambient music that creates environments at the other end of the emotional spectrum. “I’m a dualistic person,” she states, “I’m either all the way one way or another… both sides feel good but they’re very polar.” We’re looking forward to seeing the full range of her artistic taste behind the decks, we hope you will join us and hear her story.
