I recently purchased a video from Pond5. It was a great UX. I will be coming back again. Anyway, I grabbed the ProRes version of the video and converted on my 2017 MacBook Pro.

First I installed FFmpeg. There’s a Homebrew formula for it.

brew install ffmpeg

Then I found Google’s Recommended Settings for VOD. They have a good snippet to safe bet for a broad range of web and mobile devices.

ffmpeg -i -vf scale=640x480 -b:v 750k -quality good -speed 0 -crf 33 -c:v libvpx-vp9 -c:a libopus kids-children-play-cardboard-box-1960s-vintage-retro-film-home-movie-1990-640x480.webm
