For legends, vets and enthusiasts in attendance, on May 28, 2023, Str8up Hip-hop relaunch throwdown lived up to the hype. In all its fundamental elements, hip-hop is alive and banging in Nigeria.

Produced by Buckwyld Media Network in collaboration with Pop Central and Dark Cypha Entertainment at Pop Haus, Lekki, the event drew a crowd of avid followers and active players from across all the traditional elements of Hip-Hop, including MCing, B-boying, DeeJaying, Spoken Word, and Graffiti Art.

Personalities at the relaunch include Vector, Raezy Winston, DJ Michelle, Efe Omorogbe — SUHH creator/Buckwyld Media founder, Amb. Elajoe — SUHH Partner/CEO Dark Cypha Entertainment, Rapmania, Ill Bliss, Obiwon, Efe Money, Sage Hasson, Osa 7, Magnito, Iyke Big Brother Naija, Jolomi Kendaboh — Battle-of-the-Year executive producer, Dejinious — Battle Rap Africa, Dabu The Gemini, Emmanuel “Gecko” Eboigbe, Yinka Obebe — founder, Pop Central, Poet, Oluchi, Lauda, and Idol Nigeria Judge/founder, Storm 360, Obi Asika.

Highlights include headliner, Vector taking the stage and delivering a captivating medley of hits and bars that ignited the atmosphere, Oluchi’s poignant spoken word act and the B-Boys/B-Girls who astounded the crowd with gravity-defying stunts that left everyone in awe.

Undoubtedly, the rap battle stole the show, pitting two fierce competitors against each other in a relentless 4-round rumble. The rap battle reached a crescendo, with both artists fiercely vying for the cash prize. Buez emerged victorious, delivering a knockout performance that left the audience breathless. Additionally, the B-Boy battle showcased incredible talent, and Rice and Whirlz emerged as the worthy champions of the night.

Str8up Hip-hop also honoured the late great, B-Elect recognizing his contributions to the growth of Hip-Hop in Nigeria. The award was presented by Industry Collosus, Obi Asika to B-Elect’s widow, Patricia who received the award on behalf of his family in the company of members of the legendary HipHop coalition, Thorobreds, Amb. Elajoe, Ill Bliss and Obiwon created an iconic moment forever etched in the hearts of Hip-Hop enthusiasts.

Obi Asika was also surprised at the occasion as he also became the recipient of the 1st ever Str8up Hip-Hop “Respeck Da Architect” Recognition plaque which was presented by Rap Superstar/SUHH Headliner, Vector who Eulogised him & even took everyone down memory lane as he kicked some lines from the massive hit ‘Monica’ done by pioneer pidgin rap group, Junior & Pretty who signed to Obi Asika’s, Storm production label in 1992.

Str8up Hip-Hop is a platform dedicated to promoting the Hip-hop culture in an authentic and broad-based fashion. Previous editions featured leading Hip-hop figures like Blaise, Amb. Elajoe, B-Elect (late), Ill Bliss, M.I, Toni Payne, Obi Asika, Ayo Animashaun, Sage, Pamela Braide, Phyno, Modenine, Weird MC, Sasha, DJ Lambo, Splash, DJ Neptune, Big Street, Efe Paul Azino, Titans, Ovoke the Stunt King, El Dee X-Large, DJ Jimmy Jatt and DJ Spinall amongst many others.
