The “cloud” makes it easier, right?
The cloud is supposed to take the burden of systems management away from the business, don’t have to worry about patching anymore? great! But is the the reality? Sure for industries maybe yes? I mean there are processes that everyone follows, if it depends on IT, leverage common systems, don’t worry about the details.
But what about differentiation, competitive advantage in a custom market. Will the “cloud” will help you here? You will need to craft a system that no centralized system will ever cover for you, even if the promise is it will. The cloud does help though, before I get to my crafted system, today we need to spend millions of hours to configure — and patch — the systems that run below our crafted systems.
Then the point is, why do the systems below our crafted systems need all the work to configure, patch and run them anyway?
