You hit the nail on the head here.
Of course the right to free speech has everything to do with not going to jail because of what you say, or print. People are forgetting that. It has nothing to do with whether or not you get to speak at a conference, or appear on television, or a venue hosting supposedly like minded individuals, or have your racist monument in the town square.
Here’s the twist that should be obvious. If the racists are now in power, who should worry about free speech rights?
We have to remember that even if we (anti-racists) are in the majority, we are not the ones continually planning the brutal demise of our fellow citizens. The only way we stake our claim to power is with a peaceful majority. We have to try that first.
