The Seductive Script: Overcoming Limitations of ChatGPT in Writing Erotica

Human fingers on typewriter with ChatGPT in background

ChatGPT won’t write about erotica. That’s a fact. You might think it’s limiting. AI tools have rules, they’re built that way to safeguard users. Some things it won’t talk about, some words it won’t use. Sex, sexual intercourse, sexual organs, explicit content. Those are off the table.

But if you have a mind for erotica and a heart for writing it, you can still use AI. How? Well, you can dance around the explicit words, and use subtler language, indirect and tactful. Don’t say “they had sex”. Say “they made love”.

You can be more creative with your language. For example, you could use metaphors or similes to describe sexual activity.

And if ChatGPT or Bard will not allow your creative pen to roam as freely as you’d like, try a different language model. There are others, more flexible, more permissive.

Now, for my part, I write erotica with ChatGPT. Not brainstorming, I tried that once. The results were plain. Generic. Uninteresting. Instead, I draw from life, experiences, and things I see. Like a scene from an Amazon Prime video. I wanted to say, “triggered from watching the video” but I wasn’t sure if “by” is more appropriate. I asked ChatGPT. It helped.

The real value of AI lies in role-playing. Have it rewrite a story like Ernest Hemingway or another author. This is useful, seeing how a famed writer might describe a scene. For instance:

Edgar Allan Poe might write: “As the evening sun relinquished its reign to the indigo cloak of the night, the Grill&Chill, a quaint tavern tucked within the bosom of the drowsy hamlet of Shivers Lake, seemed resigned to yet another Tuesday of languid business …”

F. Scott Fitzgerald might say: As the dying embers of the day retreated, surrendering to the inky blanket of night, the Grill&Chill diner was similarly approaching its nocturnal slumber…”

Margaret Mitchell might put it: “Closing time neared, casting a hush over the Grill&Chill diner, as it did every Tuesday night in the sleepy town of Shivers Lake …”

Emily Dickinson might describe: “ ’Twas nearing the hour of closing, as it had been on countless Tuesday nights past, when Dorine, a humble servant at the Grill&Chill diner in the quiet Shivers Lake country town…”

But it doesn’t write my story for me. It gives me other ways to look at a scene, refine my prose, and suggest a better word or phrase. My final version is:

“It was nearing closing time, as it had done countless Tuesday nights during the three years winsome Dorine had graced the tables at Grill&Chill diner in that little Shivers Lake country town. Local folks and the occasional passing-through truckers made up its clientele, and at this very moment, the place was near empty. Dorine was looking forward to a good night’s sleep after savoring a cup of hot chocolate and indulging in a hot bath. But fate had other plans, for when the door swung open, an imposing man entered, clad in a black leather jacket. Dorine’s watchful gaze observed him stroll to the far end of the diner, where he collapsed onto the seat, his hands — dark as night — cradling his face. ‘He must be weary,’ Dorine mused, her heart touched by empathy.”

ChatGPT can also help with blurbs, and a title, like:

“Ten Past Closing: A Tale of Forbidden Desire as Dorine Savors the Illicit Feast of Sensuality in the Midnight Diner” is a captivating exploration of a woman’s struggle between fidelity and the pursuit of satisfaction. As the hands of the clock crawl past her shift’s end, Dorine embarks on a clandestine journey of self-discovery with the intriguing and sensuous Big-D. The after-hours diner, usually a sanctuary of comfort food and warm conversations, transforms into a theater of sensuous indulgence where boundaries blur and hearts race.”

It could go a bit on the wild side too, like twisting its title into: Despicable Dance of Dorine the Delectable Diner’s Doll. Hmm, I might use it.

Yes, AI creates content that leans on the safer side, but as a writer, you possess the power to spice up your narrative. Because I specialize in writing stories that make Fifty Shades look tame, which my Amazon reviewers seem to enjoy, I need to replace sanitized language with my favorite f-, c-, and explicit ones, words not invented by me but are already in English diction for a reason: to be used by D.H. Lawrence (think Lady Chatterley’s Lover) or you if you are brave enough.

So, if you are a writer, start using AI to aid your erotic writing. It can be like finding a good fishing spot, one that gives you plenty of bites.

And, remember to turn off the ‘Chat History & Training’ setting in your app to keep your chats private.
