Complete Guideline for International Student: NTU Undergraduate Application

I’m an international student that graduated with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Applied Physics NTU. As a student from Indonesia, I always got many questions on how can I get admitted into NTU. There might be lots of resources that you researched to, from Youtube videos or any other channel. Based on my experiences from my personal social media and as a presenter, this question is so repetitive, and I understand there is not many people know this, hence here are the guidelines that you can have! (Note: This application is also applied to Southeast Asia country, South Korea, China, UK, and other countries)

International Undergraduate Admissions

In overview, there is 4-steps to apply until you are admitted (all admission and scholarship application are done online):

Admission Criteria:

  • Haven’t applied for NTU previously
  • You are in your final year high school or already graduated are allowed to apply
  • International English test is not compulsory for most applicants except (China, Taiwan, South Korea, and other countries that didn’t have the English language during junior and high school)
  • Entrance Examinations after shortlisted for most Southeast Asia Countries or other international qualifications
  • There are no special medical conditions (Hepatitis B or Partial Colour Blindness) that restricted some programme (Check Here)

Fee

Understanding the cost incurred for the whole programme must be calculated properly. The breakdown is as such:

  1. Tuition-Fee/Education-Cost
  2. Accommodations (On-campus/Off-campus)
  3. Meals
  4. Extras (Transport, Books & Personal Expenses)

Tuition-Fee Cost:

Tuition-Fee in NTU as normally quite expensive for international students compare to local students. Those who get admitted in NTU either need to pay subsidiary/non-subsidiary tuition fee

  1. Non-subsidiary tuition fee is a normal cost to pay for international student
  2. Subsidiary tuition fee is the non-subsidiary tuition fee subtracted by MOE (Ministry of Education) Tuition Grant. It’s roughly 50% of Non-subsidiary tuition fee. However, there are no-free things in the world. As a return, an international student under MOE Tuition Grant require to work in Singapore for 3-years

Accommodations:

For an international student, you must consider accommodations cost as most likely you must stay in Singapore unless you have relative and able to save your money. There are 2 options to stay in Singapore, which is on-campus (dormitory inside of hall) or off-campus (renting apartment). It’s recommended to stay on-campus as most-likely you are spending your whole day or even your bachelor degree in NTU and it’s way cheaper to stay on-campus! NTU has 24 halls/building, which each hall/building able to accommodate 600 students. The options are single/double room, private/public toilet. The prices vary with the facilities you choose

Meal and Extras:

  • Meal, you can either buy a meal from the food court or fast-food chain, there are lots of options exists especially if you have any food restriction like Halal, Vegetarian, Pescetarian and many-more. If you are trying to reduce your cost, you can consider cooking by yourself, it requires effort but it can reduce your cost. Each meal can cost 3–5 SGD/meal, it can be more expensive or cheaper.
  • Transport, In Singapore, there are many options to choose like MRT or Public Bus, however, if you are staying in the hall, you most likely don’t need any cost, as there is a free school bus that available from morning-to-night everyday
  • Books, In NTU, you are less likely need to buy books, it’s either the module are quite comprehensive, or you can borrow from NTU Libraries or from other people that used a book. It’s fine to buy a book if you need to!
  • Personal Expenses, In NTU, there are lots of programmes that you can join and sometimes it’s not free. Or if you are plan to have short-trip around NTU and another extra spending. Something that you can consider

Application Process:

  • The application is online and didn’t require a hard-copy form. You can apply anytime within the period and after registration, you’ll receive application number in the confirmation email
  • The application fee is SGD30 (for bank transfer) or SGD 20 (for internet payment)
  • Upload supporting documents (scanned image from original result slip/certificate in its original colour is acceptable. Photocopies of academic results must be certified by your school teachers/principal or any gazetted officers before uploading)
  1. Personal Identity: Passport (highly recommended)/Birth Certificate/Personal Identity Card
  2. Junior High School/Secondary School and High School Diploma
  3. Extras (if applicable): University transcripts, TOEFL/SAT/IELTS/PTE/ACT, International Award
  4. Extra (for LKCMedicine and ADM): Tracking Page or ADM Admission Requirements and send physically by courier

Check Status helps to check all online submission of supporting documents and application fee payments with the status, choice of programme, personal information, scholarship application, and result outcome

After Accepting Offer

  1. Appeal Period
  2. Enrolment Procedures
  3. Student’s Pass Application
  4. Check on/Update of English Proficiency
  5. Upload of High School Official Results Certificate/Transcript
  6. NTU Honour Code
  7. Verification Exercise
  • Check your outcome! If you have offered an NTU degree, congratulations! However, if you don’t. You can request for appeal in order for NTU to reconsidering your application.
  • Confirm your applications and follow the admission procedure promptly based on this! It includes enrolment procedure, Student’s Pass Application, matriculation, health-check, update on English Proficiency, et
  • Document verification can be done at the official website, by email (adm_intnl@ntu.edu.sg)/post, or in person when you arrived in Singapore
