I agree with most of these aside from Barry Jenkins for director. And it’s not because of the La La Land buzz or his previous wins; it’s because Chazelle made two incredible films in a row and it’s time to throw him his individual oscar.
I don’t think Hidden Figures stands a chance though. I’d expect a few others before that. It simply didn’t have enough critical acclaim in a year with a few movies loaded with it. People recognize it’s an important story but too bland among the competition, even considering it’s Oscar-typical story.
I like your shout-out for Manchester as a “should” for best picture. It was my favorite as well, with La La Land a *close* second. I really enjoyed reading this.
