So we went to the Bahamas for a week.. we stayed a weekend. Matthew was coming. We hate Matthew.
That’s the short story. Here is the long one.

We flew to Exuma Islands on Sunday from Montreal with a layover in Toronto. The island is a group of an extraordinary beautiful cays with breathtaking views and magnificent white beaches and turquoise water.

We arrived on Sunday, it was a 30° sunny day.

We knew the weather might not be perfect for the upcoming days so we did the most of the Sunday.
We jumped right in the turquoise water, we did snorkeling and stayed on the beach for the afternoon.

At night we had dinner at a beautiful restaurant in the north of George town. The fish meal was amazing and we enjoyed the Bahamian band and the view!

On the next morning I drove to the tourism office to get more information about Matthew.. Oh did I mention that they drive on the left side? That was amazing!

They told us it is better to leave.. That’s it! There is no safe place in the island. Not even big hotels! Our villa was right on the beach on the south side, from where Matthew was supposed to hit. We decided to leave!

But leaving was very frustrating. Air canada flights are only Sundays and Thursdays. “You need to go to Nassau then, and from there to Canada!” Lashanna (the tourism office agent) said.
And you need to take the next flight with Sky Bahamas as they are canceling all flights starting this evening.”

That moment was so frustrating. We need to leave, take a flight to Nassau, call Air Canada to change our return flight, try to get a reimbursement for our car/ villa reservation, grab our staff and catch the flight in 2 hours! Just 2 hours!

That was hard!
I spent 50 minutes with Air Canada representative to make the change while my wife was securing the booking to Nassau.

Those 50 minutes were like 5 hours, waiting.. waiting.. waiting, but we did it. Our flight from Nassau to Toronto is scheduled at 7.30 pm!

The island is so small that it is was fast to get back to the villa, grab our staff and go to the airport!
We returned the car and get charged only for a day. Lashanna helped us on that and we were so grateful.

So it is time to go to Nassau.

The flight was a quick 35 minutes on this small, beautiful plane.

So we are back to Montreal, it was an amazing weekend! Two days full of adventure, beauty and emotions. We loved the beaches, the locals and the food. We will be back for sure.. during a better season :p

We escaped the hurricane but not everyone could. Our souls are with the locals, God bless them and help them fight it!

For the rest of vacations, we are heading to Gaspé for a six days road trip :)
