Jesus this is negative. America has done both good and bad things, and the bad things don’t make the “grand experiment” a lie. It’s not one or the other, Mr. Polarity, and someone stating the good things doesn’t erase the bad things. Everybody knows about the rape and murder and slavery and abuse that’s part of America’s history, and these writers using a certain phrase doesn’t hide any of it. It all happened. It’s all a part of America, but to call the good parts a lie and put all the negatives upfront is just destructive. There may be a lot of popular literature that paints rosy pictures of horrible people, but there’s plenty of literature out there that shows America’s worst dirt, and you wouldn’t know about it if there wasn’t.
