Why we made a news app, ehm a Good News App?

I was used to be a news junkie, reading as many as articles I can, at least headlines if not complete story. From politics to sports, from spiritual to page3 articles, I was going through every happening in the society which was reported through the newspaper.

I started getting selective as I finished my school and didn’t have much time to go through the whole newspaper so, first, middle and the last page i.e, Politics, Business and sports became my favorite topics.

Finished my college and started my professional career. This was the time when I got total access to internet and started following the websites like BusinessInsider, Techcrunch, Mashable. I have always been a tech enthusiast so these website were the great sources of the current happenings in the gadget world.

I immersed myself into these websites in the free time and absorbed a lot of stuff, mostly current affairs, and got myself detached from the politics and other social news. But that detachment was partial as I had been getting the social and political news on the social network pages and most of them were negatives. Besides that there were many users who were sharing the good and inspiring stories on the social media. So it was a balanced system where one can get both good and bad news about the world we live in.

Every morning when I take a look at the news of the newspaper, the vocabulary from war, corruption, inauguration, win, lose, conspiracy, violence, accident etc. Just take any newspaper you have around you, no matter how old it is, and go through it, can you count how many news are they which makes you feel good and proud about the society we live in?

This is the problem I have been facing since last few years. The transmission of information has increased and so the news has become global. We all were informed what happened on 9/11, we all were informed how many civilians lost their lives in Crimea crises, we all were informed how many Yazidis were left homeless, we all are being informed that Trump has won a debate. We all are being informed about everything, right, but mostly bad news.

How many of us were informed about the story of Ayesha Noor who has fought poverty and epilepsy to become a National Karate Champion? How many of us were informed that a School in Nottingham, England doesn’t have computers but still names as Best School? How many of us know that Canada has started its campaign to give shelter to 25000 Syrians refugees?

I also didn’t know about it until I tried to find some “good news” after scrolling through the pages of the websites like HufftingtonPost, TimesOfIndia, NewYorkTimes, IndianExpress and many more.

Many good things are happening around us but we are hooked up to the news websites, newspapers and Social media to educate us.. We don’t get much time to go through literally every news to find those good news. So we end up absorbing all the negativity from the headlines and sometimes through the stories, end up making a unconscious opinion that world is in ruins.

We humans are Negatively Biased by default this is why we all have been doing everything and taking every measure to have a positive mindset for a beautiful life. Some practice mindfulness, some writes the journal, some use affirmatives and most of us try to avoid the negative people whom we call “energy suckers”. When we are are ready to do anything to make our life postive and better, why do we ignore the content we are exposed to? It is said that “we become what we read”, so how can we leave this important part of our day and life to remain untouched.

I won’t judge media and news publishers about the placement of the good news in their websites or newspapers. Being associated with a Mobile App Development team I had the tools and channels through which I can try to make something and solve this problem. Segregating the good news from the websites of different news portals and spread them to people through an app, Wisdom+, we really didn’t get any other good name and actually we didn’t think hard about it.

We are trying to have a corner in your phone where you get good news about the great world we live in and how other people are doing great deeds for some good cause.

For sure some people will argue we are showing only the half story about the world and for that we can only say that “We are just trying to show you that glass is half full” for other half’s story you have enough sources.

Along with that I welcome you all to please share the good articles or news you come across and send it to anup@ihysterics.com and I will make sure it get passed to the readers of Wisdom+ App and fill their day with positive feelings about the world we live in.

We have launched the app on Android and working on the iOS version with more improvements. You can download the app through the appstore link here: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.hysterics.wisdomplus
