Understanding the law of responsibility


“This project, relationship, job is making me feel overwhelmed.”

or

“I’m making myself feel overwhelmed.”

Two different states of mind. One happens to us. The other we create ourselves.

Easy to blame something else for why we feel the way we do. It’s quick and it gives us an outlet for our anger and frustration.

But the law of responsibility says that if we created it, then we can also change it.

If it’s something or someone else’s fault that we feel the way we do, not much we can do to prevent it from happening in the future.

If responsibility is tough to swallow, it’s worth remembering one thing:

No matter how destructive our patterns are, there’s a reason we keep them alive. There’s always something in it for us.
