UEFA Champions Leagues: Quarterfinal’s Results and Semifinal’s Match
The Quarterfinal of the UEFA Champions League was quite an event. Surely, every football lover enjoyed all of them. The fixture ahead will also be something to look forward to.
Alas, before thinking about the soon-to-happen Semifinals, let’s take a look and talk about the drama-filled Quarterfinals!
The Quarterfinal Results
As there are only eight teams left in the prestigious UEFA Champions League, we were treated to such eventful matches throughout the two-legged Quarterfinals. All eight matches brought dramas that would probably be marked as one of the best Quarterfinals fixtures in a while.
Without further due, let’s talk about the Champions League Quarterfinal results!
Barcelona vs Paris Saint-Germain
When the two teams met at Parc de Princes, Barcelona managed to win 2–3. At some point, Barcelona also scored another goal in the second leg. That was when everyone thought it was over until Araujo’s red card. Such foolish behavior from Araujo when his team was up by 2 goals at home.
PSG was also doing everything right to go through the Semifinal. Ousmane Dembele, the former Barcelona player who was mocked by their fanbases, needs to be noted because he was Paris’s best player in both legs. So, congratulations to PSG for making the Semifinals!
Borussia Dortmund vs Atletico Madrid
On the same day, we were treated to another drama full night in Europe. Atletico did manage to win by 2 goals in Madrid. However, the second leg was a literal movie. In the second leg, Dortmund at some point managed two goals after the 34th minute. Then, with Hummels’ own goal and Correa’s goal, Atleti could be advancing to the next round.
Still, it wasn’t done yet. Borussia Dortmund scored two more goals in front of The Yellow Wall. And, that was the result of both legs. It was genuinely far from what was imagined and so exciting to watch. With that result, another Spanish club was out, and Dortmund marched ahead to the Semifinals!
Bayern München vs Arsenal
A fixture that was anticipated by a lot of Arsenal fans. With Bayern’s current form, it was still an even match. At the Emirates, the Gunners couldn’t manage to get an advantage and Bayern are using this as best as they can.
At home, the Bavarian club settled for a goal to win the match-up. Because of this, the current leader of the Premier League is out of the Champions League. Meanwhile, Thomas Tuchel’s Bayern München will march on to the Semifinals!
Manchester City vs Real Madrid
The world-class fixtures are here. The last two winners of the UEFA Champions League against each other and it did not disappoint. At the Bernabeu, another Puskas-worthy goal after another. The match ended up in a draw but it was still a thrilling 3–3.
In the second leg, it felt like City would win anytime soon even after Rodrygo’s goal. However, Ancelotti is coming with the hope that his team’s defense and counterattack will serve them well. Well, they did manage until the penalty shootout. Then, with Modric’s miss and Lunin saving both Bernardo Silva and Mateo Kovacic’s penalties, the Blancos are back to the Semifinals!
The Semifinal’s Match-Up
With that much excitement throughout the Quarterfinals, it was unknown still if the Semifinals would give that as well. However, hey, we will get two good matches in this round as well. To be precise, we will get each Bundesliga team against a Ligue 1 team and a La Liga team. No more English teams for the remainder of this competition. (FYI, Aston Villa are the only English team in the Semifinals of a European Competition, UEFA Conference League)
Also, don’t forget that this round will determine the two finalists that will go to Wembley. So, this is your Semifinals fixture:
Bayern München — Real Madrid
Borussia Dortmund — Paris Saint-Germain
Such a good fixture isn’t it and with great narrative as well!
The two European giants, Bayern München and Real Madrid, are against each other. With Madrid not having Carvajal, what will happen to the team’s defense? Then, can Bayern’s current team spirit prevail in the two legs?
Borussia Dortmund also looks solid so far. However, they do need to maximize their game at Iduna Park before going to Paris. The newly crowned champion of Ligue 1 will be out of pressure now that it’s done for them.
Now, let’s talk about narrative because we have a lot. If Dortmund and Bayern advance, it will be a throwback to a Klassiker at Wembley in the Champions League Final once again. If Dortmund and Madrid win, it’s the Jude Bellingham’s match. If PSG and Madrid are the ones in the final, it’s Mbappe’s saga. If PSG and Bayern go through, it could be PSG’s revenge for the 2020 finals.
Whatever it is it will (hopefully) be an exciting watch for both the Semifinals and Finals. The Quarterfinals are setting a high standard and it will be tough to beat.
When’s The Semifinal?
Yes, the Semifinals of the UEFA Champions League will start today! The first match-up will be Bayern München vs Real Madrid at the Allianz Arena. As for the next day, it will be Borussia Dortmund vs Paris Saint-Germain at Signal Iduna Park.
Later on, the second leg between PSG and Dortmund will be held on the 9th of April at Parc de Princes. Meanwhile, we will know the two finalists after the Real Madrid vs Bayern München at the Santiago Bernabeu on the 10th of April.
Are you excited yet? Well, get your popcorn and set your alarm for tonight and so on because it will be the start of hopefully great matches to watch. As always, may the best team win!
Final Thought: I can’t believe all of the matches that I witnessed in the Quarterfinals. I felt justified in how excited I was before the Quarterfinals. All of it was just so exciting and this kind of match reminds you that football could be won or lost in a lot of ways. However, I don’t want to set a high standard for the next match-ups. Yes, it could be exciting but it will still need a lot to be better than that. Still, it will be two legs where it will determine your team’s path to the finals. So, I know it will be all or nothing for these four teams. Thus, everyone should tune in to witness the final five games of this season’s UEFA Champions League!
