As final stages of the Diamond Park Renaissance project near completion, officials from the Borough of Ligonier and Ligonier Valley Chamber of Commerce today announced the line-up of activities for the business district’s historic grand opening of the newly-renovated Diamond Park set to take place on Friday, Oct. 5 from 3:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m. The late afternoon and evening events celebrate the history of Diamond Park and completion of a $3.5 million renovation, its most significant upgrade in half a century.

Led by the Ligonier Valley High School Marching Band, the grand opening celebration will open with a dedication…

Since the last update, a lot of progress has been made in terms of pouring more concrete, working on the roof of the bandstand, working on the brick walls and more.

By the end of this week, the interior curbs of the Diamond Park are scheduled to be finished. After that, the rest of the sidewalk along the outer walkway of the park can be poured. As you can see in the pictures below, orange tubing is being installed under all of the walkways. …

Over the last few weeks of work on the Diamond Park Renaissance Project, the new curved seating areas have started to come to life. A small army of bricklayers has been hard at work on this area. You can now clearly see the structures that will soon house benches and make for more convenient conversation among visitors, friends and family enjoying the Diamond.

Something else you will notice in these photos is forms and tubing starting to be laid on the East side of the Diamond. The tubing is for the heated sidewalks which will help with maintenance of the…

Exciting progress has been made over the last few weeks on the Diamond Park Renaissance Project! As you can see from the pictures included in this post, the walls that will surround the new curved seating ares have been built and are starting to be faced with brick. If the walls look a little tall to you, it is because the ground is not yet at the level it will be when work is completed. When everything is in place, these walls will be at the same level as the top of the benches.

The Diamond Park Renaissance Project is making great progress here in Ligonier. The crew from Darr Construction continues to work through all types of weather as they make every effort to get the job done on schedule. Over the past few weeks, they have been working on several aspects of the project.

A major facet that is being installed is the storm water drainage systems for the Diamond Park area itself and surrounding street. …

A lot has happened since our last update! If you’ve visited Ligonier or checked our webcam, you will have noticed lots of machinery, trucks and other equipment active on the Diamond. While a lot of the work is visible, some of the most essential elements are not.

One of the most visible changes to the work site is that a wrap has been installed on the fence to make the area look more welcoming to our visitors. The wrap exhibits each time the Diamond Park has gone through a renovation and shows images of the completed project.

Over the past few weeks, both Darr Construction and our local gas company have been braving the elements and diligently continuing to work on their respective projects to ensure that they stay within the established timelines.

On Wednesday April 4, the first pattern of the Diamond Detour was put into effect. During this time of adjustment, the Ligonier Borough Police Department has issued some reminders to keep both motorists and pedestrians safe:

  1. Stay alert and be mindful of the pedestrian traffic as well as other
    motorists.
Be mindful of construction vehicles on the Diamond and
possible interruptions to trafficflow. Remember: Pedestrians have the
    right-of-way while in the crosswalk.

A notice on pedestrian safety throughout the Diamond Detour was sent earlier this week, see it HERE.

“When traffic-control signals are not in place or not in operation…

The Ligonier Borough Police Department has shared a notice about the intersections of Fairfield & West Main as well as St. Clair & East Main Streets.

The intersections of the following streets are a four-way STOP during the time of the Diamond Park Renaissance Project:

  1. West Main Street and Fairfield Street
  2. East Main Street and St. Clair Street

There is NO turn restriction from North and South Fairfield Streets during this time. Motorists may proceed straight, left, or right after stopping at the intersection. Please remember to use your turn signals.

A notice from the Ligonier Borough Police Department:

With the implementation of the Diamond Renaissance Project Detour including traffic lights positioned on North and South Market Streets, an additional safety measure has been added for pedestrian traffic.

Now in place are pedestrian cross signals on the North and South intersections of the Diamond. In order to keep both pedestrians and motorists safe and to continue steady traffic flow, it is imperative pedestrians utilize the signal and do not cross without it. It is a simple, yet safe, way for pedestrians to cross the roadway.
