Instagram Baddie?
The other night my friend and I decided to try out a taco place that just opened around my area. Awaiting our order of six, yes six tacos, I couldn’t help but eavesdrop on a conversation two girls were having next to me. They were absolutely praising an “Instagram baddie” as they continuously referred to her as. They just couldn’t stop rambling on about her new hair color and her ability to always take amazing pictures. I wouldn’t consider myself a fan but I am aware of who she is. I decided to follow her on Instagram to understand the buzz and I could not believe that she has over 70 million followers and President Obama, yes the leader of our country only has 8. Now yes she is absolutely beautiful, but is this really what our generation is looking up to? It’s just puzzling to witness how young girls are dreaming to look a certain way instead of aspiring to become someone who could one day change the world. I remembered all the times I was asked as a little girl what I wanted to be when I grew up and I never failed to answer “President.” Now although my country of birth is outside of the U.S. it didn’t hurt to dream. I grew up with a desire to change the world, save the homeless, and most of all become a leader. Am I alone on this concern?
