There are several sides to this issue and people are not seeing them all, or simply refuse to see in order to be — yes — “politically correct.”…….I believe people should wear whatever they want to wear that is appropriate for the occasion…….Like — don’t show up at my house wearing cutoffs for a dinner party with the Senator……..However, there is an important point here: the requirement for Muslim women covering themselves is not in the Quran — it was imposed by men to demean women, make them feel guilty about their bodies, their hair, their sexuality… It isn’t hard to persuade women to feel guilty…..I firmly believe we should not encourage women to cover themselves like this….…..Wearing Muslim garb can lead people to the wrong conclusion. That is because people, especially in France where so many have died at the hands of terrorists under the false claim of Islam, are afraid… Even here in the US……..There is an article in the New York Magazine about the little-publicized incident at JFK International last week, describing how hundreds of passengers had freaked out over what they perceived as gun shots and were stampeding through the terminals trying to get a way. When a Muslim woman wearing a hijab stood at the top of stairs calling out for a fellow traveler, the crowd panicked even more at the site of her……These people were terrified, kept hearing “gun shots,” running ‘for their lives.’ You going to blame them for freaking out over seeing a person who looked like she could be a Muslim terrorists?……It is the woman’s choice to wear what she wants, but she should be prepared to accept the consequences.
