Eileen, I don’t agree your comparison to Usain Bolt fits the concept discussed. The story was about what Americans think not what Jamaicans or the Olympic Committee thinks. Americans think their Olympic Athletes who win gold medals are heroes and if they have followed them for years without incident they are reluctant to believe they misbehave. As I suggested to the author, it is more about celebrity, not skin color. It is also noteworthy that we now find out Locke is Latino, not WASP. People who are not racist, don’t create racist incidents for discussion, they accept the fact we are Americans filled with pride and they reject adjectives to separate/divide us. That is what is in my heart.
