A Bit Farther

The world chants away,
“You can reach there,” they say.
I am filled with hope,
In the darkness, for my goal, I grope.

I work with passion and devotion,
I say, “the goal is near”, and my heart fills with elation.
With all my might I thrust forward,
I move with guile of the rain clouds to the side of the hill which is windward.

I reach my mark, triumph flows over me,
I look up, to my dismay the goal is a bit farther, I see.
Once again I thrust forward, with hope in my heart,
For I know I’ll get what I had aimed from the start.

I reach the spot, Alas! Once again it’s a mirage and my goal is a bit farther,
My hope, for the first time, falters.
Still I surge forward once more,
Dreaming of getting all that lies in store.

Again I am thwarted, “its a bit farther” everyone tells,
Now my hope really dwindles.
But I am not defeated and try once more,
As hope still lives in my heart’s very core

But once again the outcome is bitter,
Now, without hope, in search of my goal, I run hither and thither.
The same words, in my ears, people whisper,
“Its a bit farther”, “its a bit farther”…
