NPS (Net Promoter Score) in attitudinal feedback analysis uses a 10-point scale. Amazon has a 5-point scale. Netflix moved from a 5-point scale to a 2-point scale to better predictions – similar to Pandora, Apple Music and others.

So, is 10 claps on a story good? Assuming a 50-point Medium scale? It is hard to understand, analyze, and worst, explain and compare stories objectively.

It is prone to gamification and people are already selling claps on fiverr.com.

But, it is right for monetization for Medium, and it mimics how we would clap at a spelling bee performance.
