Great article, 100% agree!. One of the Neurodata without borders (http://www.nwb.org/) objectives is to facilitate data sharing by establishing a common format. There are currently several datasets made available (including in vivo whole-cell recordings during behavior by Jianing Yu). The ‘system’ does not reward much data sharing in the short-term but what is best for a scientist seeing that the data he or she collected allowed other scientists to produce new insights? When other experimentalists start to join these initiatives it will become a cultural shift, and others initially more reluctant will feel ‘forced’ to publish their data too.
