Confidence

I am, I is and I want to always want to do all that I do, think and dream with confidence. I hope to move through life, confident but with radiant humility. In high school some mistook my self-confidence as conceit, but I knew that wasn’t their problem, but my charge to improve my presentation skills!

Muhammad Ali first delivered his first messages demonstrating his self-confidence globally in 1960 and many attempted to ignore his self-proclamations by classifying him as brash, cocky and soon to be silenced….but over time he became a leader whose heart, soul and love for humanity inspired generations worldwide. I had the honor of working with Mr. Ali and one of his high school classmates, Philippé Wynne (of the Spinners and Parliament-Funkadelic fame) at his Deer Lake training camp prior to his last fight in the late 70's.

…and so came along the dominant culture attempting to program me (and every other person of color) to have no confidence, voice or will to be anti-dogmatic. Between the model Mr. Ali presented and my father’s insistance that I could not include “can’t” in my spoken vocabulary, I ventured into a work of asking why not and joined the tribe of doers. While doing for the sake of doing was the youthful approach, I find now as a double-OG i appreciate my voice and love to listen.

I admire the journey of Muhammad Ali and find his transition, just three days before Ramadan a reminder/enhancement of the memory of his kindness, and impacts on souls around the globe. Making the world a better place, one prayer, one gift of service, one shimmer of Love-Light as we are empowered to take one more step through time. The gift of the presence of Mr. Ali certainly helped me through challenges, as will his place in my Spirit Corner…..

The Greatest joy and greatest light….peace unto us all and we are charged with staying on the path, so Muhammad Ali’s last bow will remain restful.

As the candle light flame,

Your life may always be happiness claim;

As the mountain high,

You move without sigh;

like the white linen flair,

Purity is always an affair;

As sunshine creates morning glory,

fragrance fills years as flory;

with the immaculate eternal smile,

attached to you mile after mile;

All darkness is far away,

As light is on its way;

Wish all of you a very Happy Ramadan

Ramadan Mubarak
