Movie idea: It’s 2020 and all dystopian Donald Trump fears come true. Obama (played by Denzel), leads a coup from Chicago to reinstate democracy. The country is safe, but it will never be the same again.

Opening Movement: 4–7 scenes.

Donald Trump has presided over a difficult presidency. The country is more divided than ever and an election is coming up with even harsher rhetoric than in 2016.

Meanwhile: Obama has done lots of touring around the country. But his home base is in Chicago. He is retired from politics, but unlike Bush Jr. has not removed himself from public life. He remains very connected, especially in Chicago. This fact does not go un-noticed by Trump, who accuses Chicago and Obama in general of being a part of the rot in America that needs to be fixed. Trump likens Obama to the old Chicago mafia and corrupt Chicago politicians like Rod Blagojevich.

Then: A crisis erupts close to the election. There is another terrorist attack. Tragic — but minor, four dead. Trump seizes the opportunity to install a registry for followers of Islam. This is a move to play to his base and the political ‘yes-men’ that surround him. He thinks it is the right move. Trump is a rational actor. He is trying to make America great again. The opposition disagrees and it causes protests and riots in major cities around the country. Trump installs martial law a week before the 2020 election and when that does not quell the violence, he announces the election will be put off indefinitely. In his speech he says he has every intention to hold a fair and honest election. But the American public is unsure. Can they trust Trump?

Cut to Obama: His phone rings. It’s Colin Powell (Morgan Freeman) who informs Obama about the “delayed” election and tells him that political jockeying in DC has reached a new level. Obama has had secret service in his post-presidency. He brings the lead secret service agent (played by Chris Evans) into the room and has a candid conversation with him. Obama is hesitant to divulge all his thoughts, but you can tell something is on his mind. The phone continues to ring, but Obama is ignoring it. First — he wants to test the man looking him in the eye both to see if he can trust him, but also if Obama can trust himself. He is a constitutional scholar, but right now — he is thinking about rebellion. Finally he comes out with it: “I’m going to take the country back.”

Pause.

“I’m with you…. Mr President,” says the secret service agent, as he removes the secret service earplug from one ear and cocks his gun.
