Empowering ChatGPT with Real-Time Web Browsing

OpenAI has revealed that ChatGPT, an AI chatbot, can once more search the web for up-to-date information. ChatGPT then responds with information straight from cited sources that are “current and authoritative.”

The company has introduced “Browse with Bing,” a new feature that is currently only accessible to Plus and Enterprise subscription members. But “all users” will soon have access to it.Now that ChatGPT has the ability to search the internet, it can provide you current, trustworthy information along with links to the original sources. OpenAI said on X on Wednesday that “it is no longer limited to data gathered before September 2021.”

“At the moment, only Plus and Enterprise customers have access to browsing; however, we’ll soon make it available to everyone. To activate GPT-4, choose Browse with Bing from the list of options, it proceeded.

Google’s Bard in Chrome and Microsoft’s Bing Chat on Windows, the Edge browser, and third-party browser plugins are already able to return real-time information from the internet. Both websites also provide links while searching, exactly like ChatGPT does using Browse with Bing.

OpenAI gave its ChatGPT iOS app the capacity to browse the internet in June, but it was swiftly taken away after users realised they could fool the chatbot into disclosing content that was normally paywalled by giving it a URL directly.

Initially for plus and enterprise customers

According to OpenAI, the new browsing feature will follow “robots.txt” guidelines, letting individual websites manage how the chatbot interacts with their sites. This browsing feature was initially deployed in May but was briefly discontinued in July owing to problems including getting around website paywalls.

The service will be made available again shortly, first for paying Plus and Enterprise subscribers as well as Microsoft Bing users. Following the recent releases of speech and picture functionality for ChatGPT by OpenAI, this upgrade.

Even though the browsing option is a huge development, ChatGPT continues to get criticism for its inability to deliver correct and trustworthy information at a time when misinformation is rampant.

How can I activate this feature?

Customers of ChatGPT Plus or Enterprise do not by default have access to this functionality. By selecting “Browse with Bing” in the options for Beta Features, the capability may be made available. After then, you may locate the feature by clicking on the GPT-4 on the site.
