Yes, this is me after a run. I’m all ready to join the red tomato club as you can see. No it wasn’t a very hot day and no I did not party till very late the day before. Looking in the mirror doubt started to creep in. Will I ever look normal again?!?
If you just started running, my guess is you can relate. Even if you have been a runner for a while now you will still recognize the feeling or at least the look.
Where is that happy happy feeling?!?
So I heard about those things called endorphins, but after the first kilometer I just started to feel worse and more worse. Sounds familiar right?
Well from personal experience I can tell that those sometimes only kick in after running more then eight to ten kilometers. There are times the happy flow comes that late and there are even times it doesn’t come at all.
So it’s back to crack cocaine then?!? Well euhm not necessarily, the thing with endorphins is that you really need to work for it to trigger the body to release them. The nice thing about endorphins is they are not addictive, you just have to put in the work.
So don’t be expecting to look like the Joker immediately. Mmm well I must say there is some resemblance with my photo…

But I’m gonna slim down and look sexy right??
Sure, of course, although I don’t know about that last part, unless you consider tomato red extremely sexy. Well that is, you can slim down if you put in the work. Mmm, there is that word again: work.
If your goal is to lose those kilo’s/pounds then you have to realize that although running can help with that, it might take a long time. Don’t worry though, when you get to running/exercising you might want to eat healthier, drink less alcohol and soft drinks. Once you get down that path things can go fast and you yourself can go faster.
Right… why the hell should I do this?!?
So you don’t look good in tomato red, you have a nice drug addiction going without having to move and mirrors are overrated right?
I wouldn’t want to disrupt your nice couch potato life of course but you might want to reconsider. Running is a form of exercise you can get easily into. I do recommend to go to a proper running store to get a good pair of shoes (and maybe a good shirt and shorts) but after that you can step out the door whenever you want.
It is very easy to fit into your day. You can easily squeeze in a half hour to 45 minutes before or after dinner. Or if your a morning person like me you can do it before you go into work (which is by the way very beneficial for your work day).
The benefits of running are endless. Here is a list of what it does for me:
- Stress release — it really cleans my head of all the work stuff that is going on
- Fitness — being able to go up stairs, long walks, etc. without getting out of breath
- Energetic — having much more energy during to day, it really benefits my work and everything else I do
- Sleep — if I did a run that day, I’ll sleep much better during the night
- Fun — I have gotten into the running community in my town and have been on some cool and fun running adventures
- Time management — I don’t have to make appointments to do it
- Not place related — I can almost do it any place I go
- Looking sexy — duh.…
