When I wrote about Higurashi for the collab that DoctorKev spearheaded last month, I expressed my frustrations with how much the original season was soured by its subsequent seasons. The explanation of the “why” to the mysteries of the first season diminished the fun I had re-watching the original. When Higurashi: When They Cry — Gou was revealed to be a sequel and not a remake early in the second week of Fall 2020, people scurried away from this show like it was a live grenade about…

Thank you everyone for the feedback on the last article like this — it seems that several smaller impressions on dubs is preferred to only a couple in a year. I’m sorry for the delay in posts in the new year here- projects for my master’s and licensure requirements have been keeping me running around town and writing reports when I am not at work or in class. Anyways, I have found a few moments to put some dubs on in the background and wanted to share some notes!

With their over-achieving season coming to a close, the Cleveland Browns have hope for once in their franchise’s life. That said, there is still room for growth at the “Dawg Pound”. The AFC is getting stronger by the year- Patrick Mahomes and the boys in KC are not getting any worse any time soon, Josh Allen and the Bills are blossoming, Lamar Jackson and the Ravens seem like they’re a reliable WR away from making a title run, and the Titans remain a tough out. What the Baker and Browns need is a little extra help.

Now, all joking aside…

Ever since I started doing Dubs w/ Dil articles, I walked a tightrope that I was very careful about traversing- I love dubs and the industry, but I did not want to lead my readers/friends into believing I was this gatekeeper persona who was the ultimate authority on dubs. When I was looking around for communities to write for, I had a cup of coffee (so to speak) with a group primarily interested in dubs. I remember walking away from meeting them thinking: “I never want to come off that strong and pompous about something as subjective as entertainment.” …

Winter 2021 is packed to the lid with new, quality anime and sequels that were both the results of COVID delays and the introduction to a new year of excitement. In May, right as we were seeing several COVID-related delays push anime back to Winter 2021 and beyond, studio Silver Link announced they would be releasing the third season of Non Non Biyori. As far back as then, fans anticipated the breath of fresh air amidst the chaos Renge, Hotaru, and the Koshigaya sisters would bring audiences. Some, however, feared that the six-year-long gap in production might make the sequel…

Sacrifice in the name of love is something that is decisive, and shapes lives like nothing else. If not for love, acceptance of dramatic changes in circumstances would not be tolerated quite the same way. Leave it to an anime like Kyoto Animation’s Violet Evergarden to understand this like very few can. The first film the series generated, Eternity and the Auto Memory Doll, explores sacrifices and the bond of siblings right in line with the many other reflections the TV show brought regarding what love means and how it is shown between people.

While this film came out…

As many of you know, December 18 is a somber day for me. I have said this story every year since joining AniTAY, but my first experience with a loss of life through suicide death was one of my very first online friends. He was a huge fan of Haruhi Suzumiya and, admittedly, a reason I avoided anime for so many years. I did not want to face those memories.

As I began this tradition of re-watching The Disappearance of Haruhi Suzumiya on 18 December every year, the meaning the film had for me shifted over time. I used…

There are few viewpoints of our world that are filled with as much hope as the ones that children hold. They, hopefully, know not the evils of our world yet and see the world as beautiful place. Their belief in the world being a wonderous place can serve as an inspiration for adults who find themselves lost or attempting to find their place in the world. I grappled with deciding if World Conquest Zvezda Plot was subtle with these messages or if it beats you upside the head with them. …
